Welcome to Winning Back Morecambe’s West End
The vision for the West End is to create an exceptionally good place to live, work and play in, based on healthy living, a unique setting, art-deco heritage and speciality food and drink provision.
The proposals for the West End involve:
- Keeping the best of the existing properties and refurbishing some where necessary.
- Creating new choices for residents (new and existing).
- Remodel some properties to make them family friendly. This can be done by removing the back annex, bringing kitchens and bathrooms into the houses again and creating gardens.
- Demolishing the worst properties to build new ones.
- Redeveloping the former Frontierland site and the former bus depot site.
- Creating a community park in the heart of the West End.
- Improving the streets and creating a pedestrian and cycle friendly route linking to the town centre.
The process of ‘Winning back the West End’ has been mapped out in a document called the ‘Masterplan’. The Masterplan is a long-term vision for the West End and shows a huge ongoing commitment to improving the area, this means that it is going to be a time consuming process, so lots of patience from residents is needed. The end result of the Masterplan will be worth the wait and aims to change the West End into a place of high quality living with lovely family homes and lots of public open space to play in mixed with modern apartments and trendy townhouses. This kind of mix will attract high quality specialist ‘boutique’ style shops and excellent food and drink outlets.
