Goodbye Promenade Gardens - Hello West End Gardens
The start of the New Year brought with it the start of work to redevelop the newly renamed West End Gardens.
The newly re-named section of the promenade gardens starts from Regent Road and continues to the Battery.
Contractors Birse Civils Ltd fenced off the area in January to start with site clearance. The end result will include three separate play areas for children of varying age groups, an interactive water feature, a public plaza, a viewing platform, new lighting and areas of landscaping with improved footpaths meandering through the gardens.
It will be a much improved space for residents and visitors to enjoy and should be completed during Summer. If you would like to find out more and see the latest plans, visit the liaison office on the Battery car park or call into the Winning Back Morecambe’s West End office.
1950s Tutti Fruitti Festival
A festival celebrating the 1950s is coming to Morecambe this summer and the organisers are looking for help and ideas to capture the spirit of the era.

The event, which is set for Saturday 28th July, will take Morecambe back to a time when rock and roll icons Elvis Presley and Bill Hayley were in their prime.Young girls swooned over James Dean whilst men desired Brigitte Bardot. Beehives were trendy barnets, the ‘teenager’ was invented and there was nation-wide celebration as rationing ended.
The festival will take place in and around the Platform on Marine Road Central, with activities such as jive dancing classes, Punch and Judy shows, live bands playing authentic fifties sounds, vintage cars and much more. Many local businesses have shown their support and pledged to dress up, play fifties music in their shops and serve cream sodas and Coronation Chicken.
