A Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On
There was a ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’ in July as the Tutti Frutti 1950s Seaside Festival made its debut at the Platform.
People came from all over the country to rock around the clock with bands and acts such as The HotWires, Jive Hoot, Mike Haywood, tributes to Billy Fury and Buddy Holly, and finally, Good Rockin’ Tonight had everyone on their feet as they played the final songs to end an amazing day.

Helping to recreate the fifties era were vintage motor cycles and cars, stalls selling vintage goods, Punch and Judy shows, the ‘Fifties Factor’ talent show, Kate Drummond with her fifties style ice cream van helped the crowd to cool off and Chill were making fifties style milkshakes.
Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe’s West End funded the event. Lancaster City Council provided a Festival Innovation Fund grant of £500. The festival couldn’t have been organised without the support and help from local residents especially Jackie and Martin Colyer, Keith Louis and Kate Drummond. DJ Steve Middlesborough and many local businesses pledged their support in making the festival a reality and contributed to transporting the town back the fabulous fifties. This was a fantastic event for Morecambe which gathered huge support from local people, so much so, we are coming back next year!
West End Festival and Kite Festival
The West End Festival made a welcome return to Regent Park on Saturday 7th July.

The event was organised by More Music in Morecambe with huge support from all of our local community groups including the Healthy Living Centre, Sign Posts, Baybeat, Martin Shenton from Regent Park Studios and many more.
The following day brought with it more sunshine and a great breeze to help lift the kites. The festival brought hoards of people to the beaches to fly their amazing multicoloured kites. This was a great family event and seems to get bigger and better every year.
Regent Park Update
The recent improvements to the park, funded by Winning Back Morecambe’s West End and Lancaster City Council made the West End Festival even more enjoyable.
The new children’s play area and the redevelopment of a bowling green including fencing around the green are some of the improvements that have recently taken place. In addition to this work new benches, information boards and signs and other improvements will enhance this valuable community resource.
Members of the community have also been getting their hands dirty by cleaning up the park.

Simon Hester, spokesperson for the congregation, said: “Everyone had hoped for wonderful sunshine but the rain came, however some 25 volunteers decided the rain was not dampen their spirits. This was the third year in a row that the church has teamed up with Lancaster City Council. The Church would like to thank the council and Friends of Regent Park for giving them the chance to provide some service to the community in which they live.”
