Wanted - volunteer drivers
Can you spare a few hours on a Tuesday afternoon to help lonely and isolated members of the community to attend a befriending session?
Drivers are needed to collect people from their homes and drive them to the T@2 sessions, held at the CHiPs centre on Morecambe Street, on Tuesdays from 2pm. The volunteers are also needed to take clients home again after the sessions have finished.
Anyone who is interested can volunteer on a flexible basis, you don’t have to commit to helping out every week if you can’t manage it.
If you would like to get involved, please contact CHiPs by calling in to the Open Door on Morecambe Street or call them on 01524 422448.
Tutti Frutti 1950s Seaside Festival rocks back into town this summer

On Friday 25th July at the Carleton, the party kicks of with nationally acclaimed bands such as Teddy-Boy band Furious, and the FireBirds. Also back by popular demand are HotWires who sensationally rocked at last year’s event.
On Saturday day there will be free entertainment on offer by Shakin’ Stevens impresario Ricky Arran, Buddy Holly tribute Craig Martin and the Wild Kats will end the afternoon with their fantastic set. There will be lots of activities on offer including free Punch & Judy shows, dancing, fairground rides (may be a small charge for selected rides), vintage vehicles, stalls and lots more. All this will be on Saturday 26th July at The Platform on Central Promenade, Morecambe.
Come dressed in fifties fashion and you might win a prize!
Tickets for the Friday and Saturday night cost £15 per night or you can save money by buying a £25 weekend pass allowing you entry into both nights.
Last year tickets sold out well in advance and we had to turn people away. Please buy your tickets as soon as possible to ensure you are that what promises to be Morecambe’s best festival of the year.
Contraception and Sexual Health Outreach Clinic Opens
People in the West End of Morecambe will now be able to access a nurse led outreach service for contraception and sexual health at Signposts on Regent Rd, Morecambe. This service is available on a Wednesday afternoon from 3pm-5pm and all are welcome with no appointment needed.
The community outreach nurse is Family Planning trained and is part of the Contraception and Sexual Health Service provided by the Primary Care Trust. Services provided include emergency contraception, the Contraceptive Implant, free condoms, pregnancy testing, Chlamydia screening and professional general advice regarding sexual health matters.
The decision to open an outreach clinic at Signposts is based on the experiences of young families trying to access mainstream services when childminding and travelling is an issue.
Remembering the hassle trying to get her contraception sorted after her last baby was born, local mum Louise is pleased to hear a service is opening in the West End. She said: “It’s hard to take time out when you’ve got children and the last thing you want is another baby! Having a clinic on the door step will make life so much easier”.
A grant from Winning Back Morecambe’s West End to purchase equipment and the active support of Signposts in allowing the use of a room in their building has allowed this initiative to be taken forward.
Christine Ingram Head Teacher of Sandylands Primary School has welcomed the opening of the clinic, saying: “How refreshingly sensible it is to hear of services for families and young people, living and working in our community, being offered this in the heart of the West End.”
