Commemorating those involved with the West End Gardens

The brochure describes in detail, the vision behind the redevelopment, how the concepts were developed, how the art works came about, the involvement of the community and the future hopes.
If you would like to see a copy, there is one available to download on the home page. Alternatively you can call into the Winning Back Morecambe’s West End office at 61/63 Albert Road, Morecambe, and collect one.
A leaflet has also been produced to promote the West End Gardens.

Local primary kids are going on an African adventure
Children from the 2 local primary schools will get the chance to watch animals migrate across the Serengeti – on a giant movie screen of course.
Winning Back Morecambe’s West End are organising another trip to the amazing Rheged centre in Penrith.
This time, pupils from West End Primary School and Sandylands Primary School will learn all about animals living on the Serengeti plains in Africa. They will watch a film which follows the epic journey of 1.5million animals as they travel over 500 miles. The film is shown on an IMAX style screen, the size of 6 double-decker buses. They will also take part in an interactive zoo workshop and help in creating an African animal mural. Lunch is provided and at the end of the day each child takes away a goody bag as well as an amazing experience.
Half Term Football Fun
During half term children from the local primary schools will be taking part in a four day ‘Football for All’ event.
The soccer skills school will teach pupils from Sandylands and West End Primary School football skills as well as how to enhance fitness levels whilst promoting good behaviour.
A fully qualified Football Association coach organises a full programme of activities as well as devising a personal development plan and progress report for each player.
The four day event also helps to encourage positive values such as teamwork, communication skills, attitude and awareness. Prizes will be up for grabs all week for displays of excellent behaviour.
The event is totally free for those who have elected to join in. A free healthy lunch is provided every day.
This is a regular event organised and funded by Winning Back Morecambe’s West End and lots of children from the West End have taken part. The children always have a great time making new friends, learning new skills and getting fit.
Support Team are Making a Difference to Local people
Winning Back Morecambe’s West End and Lancaster City Council have an excellent team of Integrated Support Workers who work with local residents to make sure they are living successfully and independently.

Fatima had lived in the West End of Morecambe for 14years when she found out that the regeneration plans would affect her future housing. She was very unsure of what was going to happen to her and where she would end up living.
She had never ventured much further than the centre of Morecambe and liked living in the West End. She really did not want to leave this area or her close friends.
Fatima comes from Portugal and has lived in many wonderful locations around Europe and Africa. She came to live and work in Morecambe with her friend after being transferred to Middleton by her employers Pontins, where she worked as a restaurant assistant.
Unfortunately Fatima had to give up her work due to ill health, and sadly many years of ill health and unemployment led her into a life she was not happy living.
With the help and advice from the Integrated Support Service at Winning Back Morecambe’s West End, Fatima has been able to move forward for the better.
Since her home was sold through the regeneration process she has found herself with a whole new life; having moved into a new flat which she says is great because it is still in the West end. It is very warm, safe and secure and still near to the promenade where she loves to walk every day.
Fatima said: “Because of the help and guidance that I have received from the integrated support service, I feel that I have re-gained my life. I have developed new skills and I am very happy living an independent and enjoyable life once more.”
“I have also recently received support from the 50 Forward project and I hope to join other agencies and find new friends and start to learn new things again.”
Fatima also said: “I feel happy about my life once more and I am looking forward to the summer time when I can enjoy our lovely new West End Gardens.”
