Excellent Response to Regent Park Consultation
Local people have been asked to comment on further improvements to Regent Park.
Winning Back Morecambe’s West End, Lancaster City Council and the Friends of Regent Park have been asking people for their views on how the park can be developed further. Three hundred questionnaires have been sent out and so far, over 100 people have replied. The questionnaire has been sent to homes in the West End, particularly those close to Regent Park.
This consultation is building on previous consultations that have been trying to identify local people’s priorities on how they would like the park to be improved. Previously, three priorities had been identified; the play area, a competition bowling green and the redevelopment of the multi games area. Two of these have now been completed with work on the third still being worked on.
Information from the questionnaires is currently being collated and once we have identified local people’s priorities we will look into the how we might fund the improvements.

This letter recently landed on the office door mat and we wanted to share it with you. It is from a teacher and pupils from Sandylands Community Primary School in response to the Community Chest grant for some musical equipment.

Dear Alan,
Just to update you on the progress of the brass lessons which the West End Partnership so generously funded.
We had three deliveries of brass instruments in October – cornets, trumpets, tenor horns, baritone horns and alto trombones. You can imagine the excitement!
Mike Dyer (the teacher from Lancashire schools’ music service) and I invited the children and their parents to a meeting to explain about the instruments and the funding we had received to make it possible.
Two terms down the line we have children who are able to read music up to six notes (Grand Old Duke of York, 3 Blind Mice, Merrily we roll along, Jingle bells etc.) and all the children can make a good tone, copying rhythms and learning new musical terms.
Some of the children hope to be able to play at the West End festival in July (we may yet try marching up and down as well!) to show you and the community how we’re doing.
Mr. Dyer wishes to extend some of the more able children in a separate group but until our new head starts in September I don’t know what will happen next year. If 30 of the 60 children wish to continue, the scheme will have been a resounding success. All the year 4 have been able to experience the fun of making music together, have gained skill from the experience and all because of the West End Partnership.
A huge “Thank you”
Hilary Fox – and lots of Year 4 children
Adactus unveil name for new apartments
The new name for Adactus Housing Group’s latest development at West End Road was unveiled in February.

Councillor David Kerr, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing and Housing Regeneration, Peter Loker, Corporate Director for Community Services at Lancaster City Council and Adactus Housing Group’s Director of Corporate Services Brain Moran took part in the unveiling ceremony outside the new apartments at 47/49 West End Road.
The development consists of five stunning apartments for sale through Adactus Housing Group’s shared ownership scheme which gives first time buyers in Morecambe a helping hand onto the property ladder.
The properties - originally a series of small flats in very poor condition - required extensive refurbishment including new steel supports, new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating systems and windows as well as plastering and electrics work. Now transformed, the properties will achieve an ecohomes rating of ‘good’ which is exceptional for this type of refurbishment work.
Through Adactus’ shared ownership scheme, a three bedroom ground floor apartment for example would cost £55,000 for a 50% share plus £29.09 a week in rent, making it easier for those who are starting out with their first home to get a mortgage.
A further three blocks will be developed and ready to purchase over the course of the year.
Adactus Housing Group works in partnership with Winning Back Morecambe’s West End’ and is undertaking a range of housing regeneration projects in the West End area.
