Local Children go on an African adventure

Around 100 children from Morecambe’s West End had an unforgettable trip to Rheged where they faced the ‘African Adventure’.

On Wednesday, Winning Back Morecambe’s West End organised and funded the trip to Rheged, Penrith, where pupils from Sandylands and West End Primary School watched animals migrate across the Serengeti – on a giant movie screen of course.
The children learned about the animals living on the Serengeti Plains in Africa. The film followed the epic journey of 1.5 million animals as the travel over 500 miles. The giant movie screen was the size of 6 double-decker buses.
The primary pupils also enjoyed an interactive zoo workshop and between them helped to create an animal mural. Lunch was also provided as well as a goody bag to take home as a memento of their amazing adventure.
Alan Winters from Winning Back Morecambe’s West End said: “The trip was amazing and the children had a fantastic time which will enrich their learning experience. Many of the children had never experienced anything like this before, it was an adventure they will never forget“.

Half Term Football Fun

During half term children from the local primary schools will be taking part in a four day ‘Football for All’ event.

The soccer skills school will teach pupils from Sandylands and West End Primary School football skills as well as how to enhance fitness levels whilst promoting good behaviour.
A fully qualified Football Association coach organises a full programme of activities as well as devising a personal development plan and progress report for each player.
The four day event also helps to encourage positive values such as teamwork, communication skills, attitude and awareness. Prizes will be up for grabs all week for displays of excellent behaviour.
The event is totally free for those who have elected to join in. A free healthy lunch is provided every day.
This is a regular event organised and funded by Winning Back Morecambe’s West End and lots of children from the West End have taken part. The children always have a great time making new friends, learning new skills and getting fit.
