West End Road
West End Road will see a high level of intervention aiming to retain good quality hotel and guesthouse accommodation, whilst converting other properties to suitable residential use. Some of the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) will be converted into high quality, large flats. Currently 23 spacious apartments are being created by the lateral conversion and re-modelling of large Victorian terrace houses previously used as guest houses or HMOs. The scheme has full planning and building regulation approvals as well as conservation area consent. The first five apartments are now being marketed for shared ownership making them an ideal property for the first time buyer .
ADACTUS UNVEIL NAME FOR LATEST APARTMENTS
The new name for Adactus Housing Group’s latest development at West End Road was unveiled in February

A special plaque has been put in place to mark the announcement of the scheme as Duddon Court.
Councillor David Kerr, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing and Housing Regeneration, Peter Loker, Corporate Director for Community Services at Lancaster City Council and Adactus Housing Group’s Director of Corporate Services Brain Moran took part in the unveiling ceremony outside the new apartments at 47/49 West End Road.
The development consists of five stunning apartments for sale through Adactus Housing Group’s shared ownership scheme which gives first time buyers in Morecambe a helping hand onto the property ladder.
The properties - originally a series of small flats in very poor condition - required extensive refurbishment including new steel supports, new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating systems and windows as well as plastering and electrics work. Now transformed, the properties will achieve an ecohomes rating of ‘good’ which is exceptional for this type of refurbishment work.
Through Adactus’ shared ownership scheme, a three bedroom ground floor apartment for example would cost £55,000 for a 50% share plus £29.09 a week in rent, making it easier for those who are starting out with their first home to get a mortgage.
A further three blocks will be developed and ready to purchase over the course of the year.
Adactus Housing Group works in partnership with Winning Back Morecambe’s West End’ and is undertaking a range of housing regeneration projects in the West End area.

The Masterplan states: “The depot site on Grove Street forms an ideal development site and the opportunity also exists to create new housing along this street, to reinforce the connections to the Frontierland site and to the town centre.”
