West End residents turned up in their hundreds to view the design proposals for redeveloping the Promenade Gardens on a very sunny day in July. Locals put forward their views on the options which included moving the toilets and building a concession, upgrading the children’s play areas, creating a performance/event area, landscaping areas and introducing public art features.
The entertainment on the day was also appreciated with queues of people wanting to ride on the surf simulator and have their face painted. The ‘Surf-the-Turf’ and kite-surfing demonstrations were also a huge success.

Residents were also given the opportunity to see and comment on plans to upgrade Yorkshire Street and Heysham Road. The proposals have only just been drawn up and will be available for detailed consultation with stakeholders again soon. Details will be posted in the coming months.
The results from questionnaires that have been completed will be taken forward into the planning and design stages.
