Managing empty properties…an update

The properties that have previously been acquired as part of the West End Masterplan are now managed jointly by the Winning Back Morecambe’s West End project team and the Adactus Group.

During the summer months we have encountered some problems with break-ins and vandalism. The decision has now been taken to step up security measures to all empty properties within the West End by installing intruder alarms with a mobile response unit. Once the alarms are activated a mobile unit will be on site within a matter of minutes. This is to avoid the risk of further break-ins, fire, vandalism and illegal occupation.

We work very closely with Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, other agencies and the community to ensure that the properties and local residents are protected at all times.

We would like to take this opportunity to thanks those members of the community in supporting our work here in the West End by reporting incidents where individuals have attempted to gain access to our empty properties or where fly tipping is taking place, your co-operation is very much appreciated.

If you have any concerns or any issues you wish to raise concerning empty properties and the way they are being managed, please contact Sharon Parkinson at the Winning Back the West End office or call 01524 401004. Alternatively you can send your suggestions in via the comments box.
