YOUR OPINION COUNTS

The Information and Consultation event held in Sefton Road Church Hall in February was a great success due to the many people who attended.

Over 250 people passed through the doors throughout the day.

Many local residents came along to put their views and opinions across on a variety of issues such as the future of Regent Park, the progress on the Masterplan for the West End, and on things that they want to see happen through the new Neighbourhood Management Project. Members of staff were on hand to interview residents about their priorities for change and how Neighbourhood Management could improve local services. From those who attended we found out that crime was at the top of almost everyone’s priority list. The graph shows the key themes that Neighbourhood Management focuses on and the order of importance in which local residents rated them.

These priorities are shaping a document called the ‘Delivery Plan’ which highlights the issues that Neighbourhood Management will address.

These issues include; helping to establish a local police base, securing the continuation of the ‘Arson Reduction Vehicle’, a ‘clean sweep’ to spring clean the West End during May 2006, to work with the Community Support Officers focusing on environmental improvements, to work with local schools to help them deliver high quality educational opportunities, and, to work closely with the County Council to develop a Children’s Centre within the West End. The ‘Delivery Plan’ will be made available to every household and business in the West End in the near future.

There will be a dedicated Neighbourhood Management Team working in the West End alongside colleagues already working hard on delivering the Master Plan. Local people will be able to call in and pick up useful information as well as contribute in all sorts of ways to the improvements we are planning for the West End.

Having staff dedicated to the West End will mean that we can provide local services which are tailored to meet the needs you have identified and are therefore improving public services and the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
