A campaign has been started by the Friends of Regent Park to protect and enhance this valuable open space.
Regent Park has been subjected to vandalism, anti-social behaviour and graffiti, mainly due to neglect, limited maintenance and a lack of investment. In response to the decline of the park, a group of people have joined together to form ‘The Friends of Regent Park’. Members of the group include local residents and community groups, councillors, members of the WEP and officers from Lancaster City Council.
The first issue the group have tackled is finding out the views of local residents on how the park can be improved. Local children, park users, residents and youth and community groups filled in around 200 questionnaires. The results of the survey have thrown up three options for the park. The details on all three options are being worked on and once completed, will be presented to the community for comment.

Chairman of the Friends of Regent Park, Graham Buckley, said: " We’ve tried to incorporate the views of the majority of those consulted.
We’ll be having a number of open days when local people and user groups will be able to suggest amendments. I hope everyone will make use of the opportunity."
Chief Officer of Lancaster City Council’s Leisure Services, David Owen, said: " We’re fully behind the Friends group as our ‘Parks and Open Space Strategy’ singles out Regent Park as a priority. With the wider regeneration work we’ve got an opportunity to look at the use and management of this wonderful local asset
imaginatively."
